How can you Make the transition from the Colorado Certification to ASSE (American Society of Sanitary Engineers}?

ASSE has provisions for reciprocity through re-certification. An individual who holds a valid (not expired) Colorado certification can become ASSE certified by taking a re-certification course and the ASSE recertification exam. The exam is 25 written questions. They are all multiple choices and are questions that the committee has determined to be "Core" question. These questions are of key importance to anyone doing Backflow testing. In addition to the written exam, a practical exam on the Reduced Pressure Principle Backflow Preventer Assembly (ASSE 1013) and the Double Check Valve Backflow Prevention Assembly (ASSE 1015) is required. The recertification course must be a minimum of three (3) hours in length.

How long is the certification good for (i.e. 2, 3, 4 years etc.)?

ASSE Certifications are good for 3 years.

ASSE will notify you at least 3 month before your certification expires.

This class is on a “need” basis.  Classes will be organized when enough applications have been received for a specific area.

There will be a minimum of 2 weeks from the organization of the class to the starting date. Minimum required for ASSE to process the applications.

For a class to be held there will need to be at least 7 students applying for a class held in Colorado Springs. For class held in other areas the minimum class size will be 10 students with all classes having a maximum of 18 students.

The class will consist of a review of current regulations and basic cross-connection information. There will be approximately 6 hours of actual testing practice to prepare for the hands on part of the exam.
