ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

In the workshops the participants will be presented guidelines of acceptable practices for testing, annual inspection, and repair of backflow prevention devices. The participants will also obtain knowledge on the principles of cross-connection control. The methods and devices used to prevent backflow of undesirable substances into water distribution systems, carrying potable water. Upon conclusion of the workshops the participants will have been given sufficient information and skills to pass the American Society of Sanitary Engineering National TESTER CERTIFICATION exam. There will be a examination at the end of the class by the American Society of Sanitary Engineering. Upon passing the written and practical exam, ASSE will issue a tester* certification valid for three years. The exam will be held at the same location the class was held.

* This allows for repair, the Repair certification is for large devices and safety issues.

WORKSHOP TOPICS

In these work shops the participants are introduced to and will need to know the following topics for satisfactory results on the exams: Approximately $100.00 of books and classroom materials is included in the class tuition.

APPROXIMATELY 20 HOURS WILL BE THEORY OF:

* Principles of Cross Connection Hydraulics

* Design and Operation of Backflow Prevention Devices

* Cross-Connection Law, Rules and Regulations

* Backflow Preventer Device Inspection, Testing and Troubleshooting

* Backflow Preventer Device Maintenance, Repair and Record Keeping

APPROXIMATELY 20 HOURS WILL BE ON ACTUAL DEVICES:

* Testing the Primary Types of Devices

* Trouble Shooting Problems
